Scene 2

This scene occurs after the first scene where more information on the message behind the Toynbee tiles and its owner is gathered. Justin, Steve, and Colin goes back to Sevy’s neighbor to further question them. Through these interviews, they found that Sevy drives around with an old car with the floorboard missing. Another interviewee recounts that when he was a kid, the television would suddenly go static and a message on the Toynbee idea would play.

Interestingly enough, mise en scene plays a role in establishing truth in this documentary. By interviewing Sevy’s neighbors in their own home setting, the interviews does not come across as scripted and more on the spot. Again, Foy uses eerie yet dramatic classical music in this scene when the animation of a man, most likely Sevy, is driving around his neighbor broadcasting the Toynbee message from the antenna of his car. Just like in the first scene, the use of music tells the viewer this is key information.
